Before rowing without a coach

All members of our club must demonstrate several skills and responsibilities before getting signed off to row in the clubs fine boats.

  1. Be able to competently row and steer a single training boat without floats.
  2. Be able to complete the 'capsize drill and recovery drill' (see videos below) in a training and/or fine single boat at coaches discretion.
  3. Always wear a whistle and know how to summon help with it.
  4. Always wear an item of high-visibility clothing when rowing.

Please see the Capsize and Recovery procedure.

Please also see a video of one of our members  completing the capsize and recovery drill or 'dunk' test. This test can be very challenging; you will be supported throughout this by qualified coaches and other club members.

Recently the dunk test has gained a life of its own and has become something of a club ritual, followed by coffee and cake at the Lake 32 cafe!
