Before rowing without a coach
All members of our club must demonstrate several skills and responsibilities before getting signed off to row in the clubs fine boats.
- Be able to competently row and steer a single training boat without floats.
- Be able to complete the 'capsize drill and recovery drill' (see videos below) in a training and/or fine single boat at coaches discretion.
- Always wear a whistle and know how to summon help with it.
- Always wear an item of high-visibility clothing when rowing.
Please see the Capsize and Recovery procedure.
Please also see a video of one of our members completing the capsize and recovery drill or 'dunk' test. This test can be very challenging; you will be supported throughout this by qualified coaches and other club members.
Recently the dunk test has gained a life of its own and has become something of a club ritual, followed by coffee and cake at the Lake 32 cafe!
