Health and Safety
Our club:
In line with British RowSafe guidelines, our club is committed to your safety.
Coaches will provide regular updates on our WhatsApp group on the lakes current wind speeds, temperature and conditions and decide whether conditions are appropriate for rowing. We suggest members regularly check the WhatsApp group before sessions to avoid disappointment.
We are lucky to row on Lake 32 in the scenic Cotswolds. However, we must share this lake with other users. During summer, open water swimming lanes open up into the centre of the lake, creating a narrow rowing circuit. Throughout the year paddle boarders and canoeists use the rowing area as well. New scullers must demonstrate to our coaches that they are able to competently navigate the lake, avoiding obstacles, before being signed off to row with a buddy and without a coach.
Safety launches are available throughout the year provided by Lake 32. They can be summoned during any difficulties by 6 blows of a whistle.
Your responsibilities:
You must dress appropriately for sessions. Close fitting clothes are required to prevent snagging on equipment. In winter we recommend a hat and easily removable layers; splash jackets are recommended and are available for purchase under club kit.
Throughout the year please:
- Stay hydrated
- Wear high visibility clothing
- Keep a marine grade whistle with you
- Bring a warm change of clothing
If you have any concerns for your own, or someone else's safety, please raise this with any coach or members of the executive committee.
